Fun Facts About Jaal (And Angara)
- Jaal is ‘27 arbitrary years’. Fitting, considering that he’s not sure about what he wants to do with his life/his career ‘at his age’. Getting too real.
- According to Jaal, the Angara also have diverse physical and cultural traits, and that they make the Angara a strong people. Liam says that with humans, the differences will be derivative depending on who you ask (and need I remind people that Liam is a black man from the UK), which Jaal replied that the Angara also share those disagreements too.
- The Angara have multiple gender pronouns and identities.
- According to Jaal and Liam, the Angara don’t consider sexual congress taboo in casual discussion, but they would never talk about illnesses and being sick in public.
- 14 siblings is a small and lonely number according to Paaran Shie, Aya’s governor.
- Jaal’s family’s Zimbabwean accents are local to Voeld, while the UK accents are from Aya.
- The Angara are probably less sensitive to cold than humans. They naturally prefer a cool, humid environment.
- Jaal uses lotion to moisturize his ‘neck flaps’. He also sings when he does it.
- The Moshae is 115 of our years old. Since Jaal is 27 and a fullgrown, confused adult, that makes me think the Angara have similar lifespans to Mass Effect’s humans (who live up to 140).
- There seems to be a theme of ‘stubborness’ amongst the Angara. The name Angara stems from ‘anchor’, while daar means ‘rock’, and a common farewell is to stay strong and clear.
- Angaran idiom; an ocean full of fish, you’ll find one with jems in its mouth. AKA, the more improbable the chances, the more likely for a miracle.
- Jaal’s favorite human greeting is ‘shalom’.
- Personal headcanon; the Angaran family reminds me of a lion pride, what with their huge number of women figures and their physical resemblance to cats.
- In Kadara, you’ll find a bunkhouse with scans that suggest an Angara-Asari liaison. That was fast.
- Probably a modeling convenience, but the Angara seem to have teeth similar to humans – molars, incisors, and canines.
- Jaal thinks human food tastes bland. How dare
- I personally don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Angara, a warm-blooded mammal species that look like octopus, revere whales as important cultural treasures.
