Gabriel says ‘I love you’ first. He doesn’t expect anything back, he knows it’s scary and confusing. But he says it because he means it. It takes a while for Jack to be able to say it back. At first all he can think to say is ‘I know’. And it at least makes Gabriel laugh.
Post-reconciliation, Jack is the first to say ‘I love you’ again. It’s the softest, most fragile thing he’s ever done. And he’s so afraid it was for nothing but then Gabriel takes his face in his hands and says ‘I know’.
