not to sound lame, but this is mad inspiring, like Arthur is out here barely managing to survive day to day and still manages to find time to sketch in his notebook and here I am with like zero excuses lol.
So I’ve seen a couple posts around mentioning how Arthur is dumb and I just wanna say…being ignorant because one did not get a formal education is very different than being dumb. Arthur is not dumb. He simply had no formal education because he joined Dutch’s gang so young. He even mentions that Dutch taught him to read and write and if you read his journal he writes very well.
Throughout the game Arthur shows interest in things he doesn’t understand or does not fully understand. But he’s willing to learn and that’s so important and shows a hunger for knowledge. He does his best to listen and even asks questions (like when he meets the paleontologist and just as a reminder, dinosaurs didn’t become typical household knowledge until Jurassic Park happened nearly a hundred years after the game is set. So his confusion and concern is fully justified but he is curious). It shows over and over Arthur is not dumb and has a desire to learn.
People tend to look at characters like Arthur with no formal education and who are nice and generally positive as dumb but that’s not it at all. Arthur’s willingness to listen to people explain things he knows nothing about shows that and frankly, I think his empathy for others just elevates his intelligence.
