hey! its pretty official now that im making a dating sim, and i could use a lot of help! as the title implies, i need a large amount of trans wlw to help. i need people from other demographics, but about half of the romnceable women will be trans women, and all of them will be wlw (half of the trans women being specifically lesbians, so around 4-5) and i want to give trans women a platform to share their skills in a field dominated by cis men.

im not going to lie, i plan on there being a whole lot of romanceable characters, a lot of endings, and  a lot of work so i need help with the coding, writing, and art in addition to the voice acting. and i need poc to help because, well, i plan on having ¾ of the cast be non-white.

keep in mind that im just one college student so i cannot provide much in the way of money, but when we get to the later stages of development, i plan on starting a kickstarter (like once we have character refs and an actual demo and everything), and at least ¾ of that money will go to funding my team, if not more of it

if everyone could signal boost this, that would be great! as it stands, i need:

  • 4-5 trans lesbian voice actresses
  • 4-5 trans wlw voice actresses
  • 4-5 cis lesbian voice actresses
  • 4-5 cis wlw voice actresses
  • 4-5 trans gay men voice actors
  • 4-5 trans mlm voice actors
  • 4-5 cis gay men voice actors
  • 4-5 cis mlm voice actors
  • at least 2 more coders
  • at least 2 more artists
  • at least 2 more writers

the link to the application is here, and thank you all so much for your support!

Hey, not to like, ruin your dream, but having people work for exposure is an extremely shitty thing to do. How much thought have you put into this project? Do you have a starting idea for a basis of a plot? Do you have any writing, art, or coding skills yourself? You can’t just be an ideas person and expect everyone else to do the work. How much effort are you willing to put into this? Can you imagine yourself working through this even when the going gets rough or are you going to just drop it? Have you ever actually made a game before? Starting such a big project as your first game isn’t a great idea. Like why in the world are there over 40 romance routes, bucko. No offense, but you should really take a hard look at this idea and rethink what you’re doing. Being a poor college student is not an excuse to not pay the people you want to work with you.

I’m really glad someone brought this stuff up. I took one look at OP and asked all of these questions. Because it’s just really damn interesting that one of the most popular and vitriolic aphobes on this site is seemingly attempting to get a substantial group of trans women working for him for “exposure”. Or as it can also be called: Dick all

(I’m also not going to, y’know, accuse anyone but it’s really convenient that this idea pops up after the success of Dream Daddy. It almost looks like “But this game has more marginalized people in it, so it’s obviously going to be better”. Op can say he’s had the idea for over a year but if that was the case, now was a really bad time to expose it to the public. And tbh I don’t think I trust a trans woman dating sim made by someone who isn’t a trans woman but we’re just gunna move right along here.)

Firstly, the fact that lesbian and wlw are separated out in a weird way. The desire for queer actors is understandable, and the diversity would be a great thing, but this post screams “lesbians and then all you other gals” which seems uncomfortable.

On top of that, the completely unrealistic expectations for the game. There’s a reason dating sims have a limited number of characters, routes, and endings. There’s a reason players are able to skip quickly through numerous scenes. They want to see all those endings, and having more than three of them for each character, depending on how many characters you have, is going to be exhausting. And how are you going to accomplish so many endings? By having a shit ton of dialogue, all of which is going to result in a different ending? Can you imagine the guides people would have to make for that?

And is OP expecting this to be fully voice acted? Because good fucking lord. Depending on how much dialogue, you’re going to need to assure these people more than just fucking “exposure”. And do you have access to quality recording equipment? Do you know how long it takes to voice act something, to then edit it and reshoot if something goes wrong? A ten minute episode of DBZ Abridged, made by the fully funded TeamFourStar takes a month to create – ten voice actors per episode. I don’t think OP has any concept of how much effort that takes. Are you prepared to be the guy who has to go after everyone in your cast and make sure everyone has their shit together? Because shitty audio is a quick way to absolutely murder a game. And even if it’s not fully voice acted, as many dating sims are not, you still have to put in substantial work because if the small bits of voice you do get are grating, people are not going to want to listen to it.

Also, what about background music? Dating sims usually have at least some measure of soft ambient noise in the background? You gunna pay a composer, or are you gunna run to Icomptech? Everyone knows what Kevin McCloud sounds like, due to every wannabe gamedev using his royalty free music.

What about the art? Because no offense, but OP’s art is not marketable. It’s by no means of poor skill, but people are not going to kickstart a game with that art. You are not going to be able to pay a team of the requested size with that art. And you want a lot of characters, so you need to be paying an artist at least a living wage and again, not “exposure”, and not pennies from your broke college kid wallet.

Also does OP know how incredibly hit or miss crowdfunding can be? Most successful campaigns are so because they already have fanbases, or they serve such an incredibly small and starving niche that you have a small community willing to shell out for your development. A vast majority of crowdfunding campaigns for people who do not already have people with wallets open fail, and they fail hard. That’s not say that people won’t kickstart your project, but unless you can put up a demo that blows people out of the water, you likely aren’t going to get there.

Another topping on the proverbial sundae: OP says he has a bit of coding experience. “Some coding experience myself” is the exact wording. Which tells me he knows….some. Y’know how else has “some coding experience”? Me. I took computer science for one year in uni. I know some basic coding. I also still have my coding textbook. That doesn’t mean either of us can code enough to create a game, especially not one of such…ambitious size. Though OP has claimed he has also made some games, though not any “open to the public”. Meaning: We have absolutely no idea what kind of games OP can make – we also have absolutely no portfolio of their writing skills that I could find, meaning that OP can be claiming to have skills to make him more than just “Ideas Guy” but we don’t know if any of that is actually true.

And then there’s the biggun: How are you going to market this? Do you have the money to get it advertised in the right places? Do you know how to market properly? Do you even know what it takes to get a game recognized through more than just word-of-mouth? What kind of digital storefronts are you looking to utilize? Can you pay platforms like Steam to host your game? If you’re not going that route, how are you expecting to make enough money to pay your team? What exactly is your target monetary gain through kickstarter? How much money do you estimate it’s going to take to create this massive project? If you don’t know the answer to those questions, you’re not ready to make a game.

…This post got really long, really fast.

Overall, I’m just really annoyed at OP so blatantly coming out with this after the success of DD, as well as outright seeming to expect some of the most marginalized people on this planet to “work for exposure” with little to no promise of money, little to no promise of a professional working environment, little to no promise of organization beyond “This is how I’d like things to go.” From a person who doesn’t actually seem to know anything about how to make a game, the effort that goes into it, and how they’re going to produce or sell the thing.

My advice: Hire a fucking consultant, because this is a disaster waiting to happen, and trans women don’t deserve to get ripped off because OP couldn’t bother to get all his ducks in a row before attempting a huge project with a lot of people’s time and effort on the line. You’re nowhere near ready for the submitting applications phase.

Advice for everyone: Don’t try to “hire” people to do literally anything until and only after you have the money to pay them. Just don’t be that person.

Oh look, a popular REG looking to profit off the exploitation of trans women, wlw, and woc.

Is it Thursday already?

realistically? as the director of a professional creative endeavor?

you should have started with a kickstarter first.

get the money, get some funds, and then look for people who are willing to be part of the team. otherwise, this is a flimsy attempt to garner talent with no sure quotes on time and pay

I’m at the point right now where I have no sympathy for exlusionist genderists.

lavender-scones:

not-just-another-fake-lesbian:

Like this is y’alls fault.

When you started letting non-same sex attracted trans people in.

  • You caused homophobia within the community to spike.
  • Trans people calling women, who are oppressed for their gender “cis”. A word that means “Not oppressed by gender”.
  • Caused trans people to think it was okay to force themselves on lesbians/gay men and call them “transphobic” if they wouldn’t have sex with you because you have a dick/vulva.
  • Let trans people trample over LGB issues like marriage equality, corrective rape, and the criminalization of gay sex.
  • Let trans people redefine gay and lesbian sex, calling lesbian’s attraction to vuvlas a “genital fetish”.
  • Made everything have to be “inclusive” for every possible gender anyone could possibly think they were and let straight people identify as “bisexual” because they might date a nonbinary person.
  • Made womyn exlusive issues surrounding their anatomy no longer (liberal)feminist because “SOME MEN DEAL WITH THAT!!!!”
  • Prioritized non-same sex attracted trans people over actual LGB people

And this is what made ace people think they could step all over us as well.

  • Homophobia in the community spiked, once again
  • Ace people calling LGB people, who are oppressed for their attraction “allo”. A word that means “Not oppressed by attraction”.
  • Caused ace people to think it was okay to pressure people into relationships. If you say no because sex is important to you, you’re “aphobic”
  • Let ace people trample over LGB issues like marriage equality, corrective rape, and the criminalization of gay sex.

  • Let ace people redefine what homosexual and bisexual mean to “experiences sexual attraction to ______”. Calls anyone who doesn’t agree an “aphobe”
  • Made everything “inclusive” for every possible a-spec identity anyone could possibly thing they are
  • Made LGB issues surrounding sex and relationships welcome because “PDA IS GROSS!!!!”
  • Prioritizes non-same sex attracted ace people over actual LGB people.

IF YOU STILL CAN’T SEE HOW SIMILAR THESE ARE, YOU’RE THE REASON ACE PEOPLE WANT IN.

RE: Recent Concerns

takethatzine:

Hello.

As I’m sure most of you have seen by
now, this project has been publicly questioned for suspicion of
things such as gatekeeping and biphobia. We mediated on what to
do as a result of this, ranging from attempting to carry on to
canceling the project entirely, and ultimately we’ve decided to at
least acknowledge and attempt to explain what people are concerned
about.

We frankly do not understand these accusations, as we have
thoroughly explained our positions on the matters brought up and
where they came from, nor do we necessarily approve of the idea of
bringing them up in such a way rather than messaging us with concerns
–which we have shown to be already more than receptive to. We are
not a blog here to engage in arguments or discourse. We’re simply a
project trying to have a good time, so allow us to attempt to clarify
this matter as well as we can.

We have been primarily accused of
having an anti-aroace agenda because we are putting some of it
through the same screening process as much of our other submissions.
That is to say that aroace characters who are either trans and/or in
same-gender ships (or otherwise same gender attracted) are automatically good to go. We have also said that we gladly encourage art of two or more people in platonic relationships. Anything else, as we have
described, will be reviewed by staff upon submission for mere purposes of caution. It should not
be surprising why this is, especially because we have detailed our concerns before (re-articulated in the next paragraph). There’s no point in pretending that this
isn’t a major point of contention of late, and this is why our rules
and regulations follow such a pattern. In-depth discussion on this is for
another time and another place. Our aim is simply to try and offend
as few people as possible and consider what we are given very
carefully.

The other accusation is that we are
bi- and panphobic because we don’t have an anything goes policy on
cis M/F ships. We have previously articulated why this is, both in
response to asks and in our FAQ, in a way that we deem at least
fairly reasonable. The reason for this provision is simple: there are
people out there who would be more than willing to take advantage of
good faith for their own purposes. People who do not and would not
headcanon these characters as bi- or pansexual might attempt to use
this project as a way to slip in M/F art of characters they view as
cis and heterosexual. This screening process simply aims to filter
these out.

Our purpose has never been to exclude,
and our purpose has especially not been to cause debates about
identity. We’re simply here to showcase LGBT content in the most
respectful way we can possibly manage. We want to particularly note
that our staff has multiple people who identify as asexual and/or bi-
and pansexual on it. We’re fully aware of the discussions within the
community and the perspectives within them. We are not here to cause
trouble or frustration.

We have also been referred to as
“cissexist,” and we out-and-out don’t understand this. We’ve
made zero statements about trans people and characters other than
“they’re included and welcome,” and the majority of our staff
identifies as trans in one form or another.

We kindly ask that in the future, if
you take issue with our policies, that you please come to our inbox
before taking further action.
We would be glad to explain ourselves
rather than feel like we have our backs against the wall when our
primary goal is to be as inoffensive as we can possibly manage. We
know that this is theoretically impossible – everyone has their own
perspective on intracommunity issues, and there is essentially no way
we can please everyone. But we ask that you understand that we are
trying very hard to do so.

We kindly request that you do not attempt to get in any arguments on the post that this is responding to, or with the people involved in it. We are sure that they are speaking from legitimate concern.

We also request that you do not try to
engage in discussion on this post, as it’s already rather long.
Please direct any questions and concerns to our inbox. We will not be engaging with anyone who reblogs this post, but we will gladly talk to people who are willing to approach us in these manners. If you would like a response and an explanation, please simply do that. We’re not attempting to silence anyone, but merely contain any and all discussions to a calm and constructive format.

Thanks again for your time and
patience.

TTZ Staff

Oh, and I’m hoping my time and patience will be rewarded.

A quick way to deconstruct every line of passive dodging in this post? @takethatzine sums up their guidelines with this; we, the moderators of this artistic project, have the right to intrusively ‘guess’ and ‘evaluate’ who’s Gay Enough …. whether it’s fictional Ace Attorney characters, or the creator’s intentions.

There’s only so much gatekeeping that someone can justify without being cissexist, or acephobic, or bi/panphobic. And believe it or not, your guidelines cross that mark.

“Oh, nope, it’s gotta be somewhat same-gender-attraction-based. What does that mean? Well, when a non-binary person undresses, their relationship will really be on the rocks! What do you mean? Of course all non-binary people are trans!”

“Oh, nope, we’re very much concerned about these hypothetical people submitting artwork that we are gonna somehow see through their sneakypeaky intentions and see that they’re actually trying to take up a page on our zine! How do we know this? Hell if anyone else knows! We’ll just keep you guessing, I’m sure it wouldn’t creep people out too much.”

“Oh, nope, ace people aren’t lgbt. Because every single shitty argument spewed by truscum, terfs, bi/panphobes, anti-non-binaries, and so on is definitely legitimate when applied to aces.”

“And hey; we’re taking a neutral stance here! That’s why we’re making a literal safe haven of exclusionism for people who like to impose cissexism upon trans bodies and their sexuality, for people who like to invade other people’s sense of private sexual identities and how they chose to express them, and for people who think not having a sexual orientation is the same thing as a man wholly attracted to women!”

It’s ironic that this project is a charity event for the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Going by what major non-profit LGBT+ organizations are doing, run by people who actually do see the numbers of who ‘takes advantage of good faith’ and who needs these resources, they’d wouldn’t approve of an attempt to guise zine participation based off of you’re-not-gay-enough discourse.

LMAO REBECCA SUGAR IS A RADICAL FEMINIST AND SHE AIN’T TAKING SHIT FROM NO-ONE

Steven Universes new episode Rocknaldo is a reference to trans ideology. Ronaldo is against “rockpeople” (women) but when explained how rockpeople are really Crystal gems, he realizes that he was wrong. Then he insists that he is a Crystal gem (woman) too though he is a human (man). Gems tell him like it is (he ain’t a gem) but Steven tries to be nice and say that yea Ronaldo is a Crystal gem even tho he clearly doesn’t believe that himself. Ronaldo makes it all about himself (like transwomen often do in femalespaces) and tries to tell Steven how REAL gems would act. Steven is nice to him until he snaps and realizes how fucked up the situation is. Like women experience a peak rad moment when they get a bit too much shit from trans idologists.

The episode was perfect I’m both laughing and crying Rebecca did so well. Do talk to me about this I’d love to hear your thoughts on this wether you are a radfem or a genderist!

back in 2012-ish, at the peak of truscum discourse, they literally used mogai, tucute and transtrender synonymously to mock people, and it was always about having too many labels, or thinking it’s some fun club to be trans.. so, just reflect on what kind of thinking you’re promoting when you’re saying “mogais are just straights that wanna be special by having lots of labels for their orientation”..

Honestly, I see tons of very justified commentary about how closely ace discourse resembles “bihet” rhetoric, and I think that its eerie similarity to truscum rhetoric is also deserving of more exposure.

Truscum were anti-nonbinary because they believed:
– we were really just cis peope infiltrating the community by claiming to be trans
– we would steal resources
– our words were made up
– we had too many of them
– they were overly specific
– we were diluting the meaning of transness
– we weren’t really oppressed

This is why I get pissed as shit when people mock “MOGAI Tumblr”

Don’t forget “they’ll make young gay people unnecessarily question their identities because of internalized homophobia!”

I’m gonna say it real straight and clear: anti mogai sentiment and rhetoric is literally left over anti nonbinary sentiment and rhetoric.

You jumped on the “mogai was a mistake/is embarrassing” or “fucking mogai identities!” bandwagon? Great! You just repeated anti nonbinary bullshit started by truscum to undermine a community that was created most primarily bc NB PEOPLE WERE CHASED FROM THE LGBT AND NEEDED AN ALTERNATIVE.

Every single one of your Edgy™ mogai mockeries that you picked up from one of the other discoursers you follow was created originally by a truscum to hurt nonbinary people.

I’ve even seen the “mogai hair” and “looks/sounds like a mogai” used to try to mean aces, completely ignorant of the fact that those phrases literally mean “nonbinary people.”
