How important do you think scent is for higher vampires? I was playing thru b&w again and I noticed that when Dettlaff hugs Rhen/Syanna at Dun Tyne he sort of ducks his head into her shoulder. Regis does the same when he hugs Geralt. In a world where dopplers or magic can mimic a person visually, I think scent could be an ultimate identifier for those with strong enough sense of smell to rely on it. ie, Yes, this is definitely ‘my human’ or ‘my witcher’…

I think scent is important to them. It’s a way to identify things and discern their condition. For example, it’s wise to take a whiff of milk to find out if it’s gone bad before drinking it.

I could also see it as part of greeting a fellow vampire, like animals do that ”hello yes how are you doing” quick sniff. Though I don’t think it’d be as obvious as straight up walking to someone and smelling them out, no. At least unless the person they’re sniffing is someone really close to them. I think it’d be a more discreet thing, something they’d low-key do along with handshaking (or other such greeting).

And Regis is there, like;

“You’ve had pea soup for lunch and you’ve petted a cat and you have been fighting nekkers in a swamp four hours ago and one threw up on your shoes.“
